Terry was Dean of the Faculty of Education at York University in Toronto, and is currently Dean of ADSOE at Barry University in Miami Shores, Florida. In her work in the United States, Canada and China, she has focused on teacher education - and the education of teachers of English as a second language in particular. She is committed to public education and to removing the barriers that face many learners, particularly immigrants.
