Chemical metallurgy is a well founded and fascinating branch of the wide field of metallurgy.
This book provides detailed information on both the first steps of separation of desirable minerals and the subsequent mineral processing operations. The complex chemical processes of extracting various elements through hydrometallurgical, pyrometallurgical or electrometallurgical operations are explained.
In the choice of material for this work, the author made good use of the synergy of scientific principles and industrial practices, offering the much needed and hitherto unavailable combination of detailed treatises on both compiled in one book.

Chiranjib K. Gupta held the position of Director of Materials Group of Bhabha Atomic Research Centre in Mumbai, India, since 1990, retiring in 2002. He obtained his PhD in Metallurgical Engineering in 1969 from Banaras Hindu University, receiving a distinguished alumnus award. In over three decades he has pursued research, development, and production programs focusing on pyro-, hydro-, and electrometallurgy, mineral processing and physical chemistry, as well as teaching activities and academic guidance of thesis works leading to masters and doctoral degrees in Metallurgical Engineering. He has published well over 200 written works, including eleven books, and is recipient of numerous awards recognizing his contributions to Metallurgical Science and Technology, and continues his publishing activities to this day. He is a fellow of the Indian National Academy of Engineering, which has recently conferred on him distinguished professorship.
