Lee is an associate professor of history at the University of California, Santa Barbara, and a co-organizer of the University of California Multicampus Research Group on Ancient Borderlands. Michael North is a professor of history at the University of Greifswald in Germany. He is the author and editor of several books, including The Baltic: A History and The Expansion of Europe, 1250-1500 .
