Providing a detailed review and analysis of studies published from 1998 to the present day, it examines the likely reasons for the failure to develop an HIV vaccine despite multi-million dollar investments. Marc Van Regenmortel was a Professor of Virology at various Universities in South Africa (Stellenbosch and Cape Town) and France (Strasbourg), and was head of the Immunochemistry Laboratory at the CNRS Molecular Biology Institute in Strasbourg for 22 years. He served as President of the International Committee on Taxonomy of Viruses and published a dozen books and 420 papers and reviews on the immunochemistry of peptides and viruses, viral taxonomy and biosensor technology. He was an advisor to the South African AIDS Vaccine Initiative and is currently an associate editor of Journal of Molecular Recognition, Archives of Virology, Advances in Virus Research, Journal of Immunological Methods, Analytical Biochemistry and Frontiers in Immunology. He is an Adjunct Professor of the Medical University of Vienna. |
