- What is Ebooks for the Classroom+?
Ebooks for the Classroom+ is a database of ebooks that the USF Libraries own or can purchase to support classes at no additional cost to students. All titles in this database are or can be made available to the entire campus with unlimited simultaneous users.
- How can I search the database?
You can search the database for a specific ebook by title, subject, ISBN, or author. Once a search has been performed, the results can be sorted by cover, title, author, publisher/platform, subject, digital rights, and status (owned/not owned).
- Why is the book I want not available?
From the students tab, USF students will only see ebooks adopted by instructors. Students are welcome to search the full database from the Faculty tab, however they may or may not be able to access the title depending upon whether it is owned by the USF Libraries.
When faculty are searching the Ebooks for the Classroom+ database for a known title, it may not be available as an ebook. The USF Libraries are only including ebooks in this database with unlimited simultaneous access. Therefore, an ebook with limited access may be owned by the USF Libraries, but would not be available in this database. Those items can be accessed through the USF Libraries online catalog.
- When will the ebook that was adopted for a course be available?
If the USF Libraries already own and have access to the ebook, it will be available immediately. When the USF Libraries need to purchase an ebook for a course, the instructor will be notified via email that the title is available. The URL will also be provided. Faculty can then place the URL in Canvas, list it on their syllabus, or refer students to the Students page of the Ebooks for the Classroom+ database.
- How can students access an ebook that is adopted for a course?
Students can search the database by instructor, course title, or course number for access to adopted ebooks available for free through the USF Libraries. Faculty may also provide the link to the ebook on their course syllabus, or within Canvas. Most titles are available for download to many devices such as phones, tablets and laptops. Students must log-in with their NetID if accessing an ebook off-campus.
- If an ebook is not found in the database, can I still request it?
Yes! An online form is available to submit your request. It can be found by navigating to the Faculty page and clicking on the “using this form” link.
- Is there a maximum number of ebooks that I can request?
No! You can request as many ebooks as are necessary for your courses.
- If I request an ebook, does it need to be assigned to a class?
Yes. For this initiative, we are requesting that ebooks be assigned to at least one class.
- How long will it take the USF Libraries to buy the ebook that I want?
The processing time varies, however you should allow for at least a week to ten days for access to the ebook title.
